The sprawling dynasty of the Young family is expanding to television, and you do not need Hollywood representation to audition. HBO and agency Firefly Casting have launched an international open casting call for two major roles in the upcoming eight-episode Crazy Rich Asians television series.

Original film co-writer Adele Lim steps in as showrunner and director for the project, which picks up after the events of the 2018 box office hit.

The story adapts Kevin Kwan’s follow-up novels China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, pulling Constance Wu’s Rachel Chu and Henry Golding’s Nick Young straight into the high-stakes world of Shanghai billionaires and family inheritance battles. Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Chieng also reprise their respective roles as Eleanor Young and Eddie Cheng.

The production is seeking two specific performers to round out the new cast: an East Asian woman in her 30s to portray Posy, and a Chinese man in his 20s to play William.

Breaking Down the New Characters

The casting breakdown describes Posy as an East Asian woman in her 30s who is glamorous, brazenly ambitious, and navigating the aftermath of a broken marriage to a powerful tycoon.

Casting notes detail the character as flamboyant, unapologetic, and calculating, balanced by an unexpectedly endearing personality. Performers auditioning for the part must speak fluent English and possess a working familiarity with Mandarin.

The second character, William, is an exceptionally wealthy Chinese man in his 20s.

The son of a Shanghai property developer, William carries a mischievous streak beneath a carefree exterior, combined with a genuine desire for connection. Hopefuls must be fluent in English and conversational in Mandarin.

How to Submit Your Audition Tape

Hopeful actors do not need prior professional credits to throw their hat into the ring. The production team confirms that previous acting experience is not required, and there is no fee to submit an audition.

Applicants must record and submit digital self-tapes alongside the provided audition scenes before the window closes.
