Big Bang Coachella

K-pop legends BIGBANG are officially back. During their second weekend performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung dropped the news that fans have been waiting years to hear: a 20th-anniversary world tour is happening.

The group closed out their set on the Outdoor Theatre stage with the surprise announcement, signaling that this isn’t just a one-off reunion. It is the beginning of a major return.

If you were watching the livestream or standing in the Indio crowd, you witnessed the moment G-Dragon took the mic to confirm the band’s plans. After playing a hit-packed set that spanned two decades of their career, the members confirmed that the celebration of their two-decade milestone starts this August.

“Big Bang’s 20th anniversary world tour will begin this August,” G-Dragon told the crowd. “It’s going to be crazy, no doubt, and you’re going to love it for sure. So do not miss out and stay tuned.”

What We Know About the Tour

While the specific dates and locations are still under wraps, the tour is tentatively being called BIGSHOW: REBORN. This title carries a lot of weight for long-time fans; historically, BIGSHOW was the name of the band’s annual concert series that kicked off their new music and touring cycles.

The fact that they chose the world’s biggest music festival to break the news proves they aren’t treating this as a side project. The group has not toured as a full unit since their 2017 Last Dance run, making this return a massive event for the K-pop industry.

A High-Energy Homecoming

The Coachella sets themselves served as proof that the trio hasn’t lost their edge. The performance was a high-octane mix of solo showcases and group hits, moving through tracks like “Bang Bang Bang,” “Fantastic Baby,” and “Still Life.”

Taeyang, who is also dropping a solo album titled Quintessence on May 18, made sure to express how much the support meant to the members. “As we mark our 20th anniversary, we’re deeply grateful for the love, support and patience you’ve shown us over the years,” he said. “We wouldn’t be here without you.”
