9 August 2017: Happy National Day Singapore!

Today marks Singapore’s 52nd birthday. On this day in 1965, Singapore was declared officially independent from Malaysia. Every year since then, the national holiday commemorates the city-state’s independence.

Typical celebrations include an address by the Prime Minister, fireworks and a parade.
