Greta Lee’ and Wagner Moura are trapped with nowhere to run in the newly released trailer for Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi thriller The Last House, which has officially dropped ahead of the film’s August 7 global premiere.
Directed by Louis Leterrier, the film — previously titled 11817 — centres on a family of four who suddenly find themselves sealed inside their home. With no way out, dwindling resources, and rising panic, the situation becomes even more disturbing as they begin to suspect that something outside is deliberately keeping them trapped.
The trailer leans into that growing dread. “What the hell is going on?” Lee’s character asks as the reality of their confinement sets in, while Moura later voices the central fear: “What if something out there is keeping us trapped?”

Positioned as a contained, high-concept thriller, The Last House trades spectacle for psychological tension. Early footage points to a stripped-back setting that places its characters under relentless pressure, where survival hinges as much on emotional endurance as it does on physical escape.
For Lee, the role marks a continued move into genre storytelling following her Oscar-nominated performance in Past Lives. She has since expanded her range with projects like Tron: Ares and A House of Dynamite, alongside acclaimed television work in Russian Doll and The Morning Show.
Her upcoming slate reflects that versatility, with voice roles in Toy Story 5 and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse further cementing her presence across major franchises.
Opposite her, Moura brings awards-season momentum after his Academy Award-nominated turn in The Secret Agent. His past credits include Civil War, The Gray Man, and series such as Narcos and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The supporting cast includes Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa.
Behind the scenes, Leterrier directs from a script by Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters), with production from Chernin Entertainment and 3 Arts Entertainment. Leterrier also produces alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson, and Oly Obst.
As Netflix continues to invest in character-driven, high-concept thrillers, The Last House positions Lee at the centre of a tense, claustrophobic story — one that hinges on performance, pressure, and the unsettling question of what lies just beyond the walls.
