CNN has listed Andrew Yang as their top pick for Secretary of Commerce under Joe Biden.

The former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate has a background in law and business.

His presidential campaign’s highlight was universal basic income, which would provide very US citizen with $1,000 a month.

Combatting Asian stereotypes, Yang’s campaign ironic slogan was ‘MATH: Make America Think Harder’.

The Asian American was the only POC in the final Democratic Party debates, an achievement that he said he was both “honoured and disappointed” about.

Leading up to the 2020 election, Yang called the removal of President Trump from the White House a “major political awakening” for Asian Americans.

However, Asian American support for Trump was shown prior to the election, and exit polls suggest that he gained 5% more votes with the demographic in 2020 than he did in 2016.

Meanwhile, a smaller percentage of Asian Americans voted for Biden compared to Hilary Clinton in 2016.

Yang recently expressed his disappointment that more Asian Americans did not vote against Trump.

In related news, Chinese American Trump supporters are using WeChat to raise funds for an election recount.
