Independent reports that Andrew Yang has said he was both “honoured and disappointed” to be the only POC in last night’s Democratic Party’s debate.

Yang had qualified for the the party’s final debate, alongside Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer and Elizabeth Warren.

When asked about how he felt about the lack of diversity among the Democratic candidates, Yang said, “it’s both an honour and disappointment to be the lone candidate of colour on the stage tonight.”

“Black and Latinos have something much more powerful working against them than words.”

The Asian American, who promises to give everyone $1,000 a month if he becomes president, said his policy would encourage more people of POC to run for president.

“The question is why am I the lone candidate of colour on this stage? Fewer than 5 per cent of Americans donate to political campaigns. You know what you need to donate to political campaigns? Disposable income,” he said.

“I guarantee if we had a freedom dividend of $1,000 a month, I would not be the only candidate of colour on this stage tonight.”

In related news, Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng recently described Yang as an “Asian dad making Asian dad jokes”.
