A South Korean content creator shared her experience of receiving a racist gesture while attending a World Cup match. The creator, known online as inocat_t, filmed herself waving to the crowd when a man sitting behind her mocked her.
The man, wearing a Mexico football shirt, looked directly at her camera and used his fingers to pull back the corners of his eyes. Other fans around him laughed and cheered while the gesture took place. The video clip shows the creator maintaining her smile for the camera despite the behaviour behind her.

The video quickly gained traction on TikTok, where viewers expressed their anger and support. Many people condemned the man’s actions and praised the creator for her composure during the match.
“The way she keeps smiling breaks my heart,” one viewer commented, noting how difficult it must have been to stay positive in that environment. Another user added, “She is so strong for keeping her composure, I would have confronted them immediately.”

Many commenters from around the world expressed shame that a fan would act this way on an international stage. “As a football fan, this makes me sick to my stomach,” wrote one user. Another viewer stated, “This is absolutely disgusting behaviour and it needs to be called out every single time.” Several users noted that this type of behaviour remains a common issue for Asian football fans travelling abroad, with one person writing, “We just want to enjoy the game like everyone else without facing this.”

Football governing bodies state they have a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination. Incidents like this highlight the challenges that still exist in eliminating racism from stadium stands.
Campaign groups continue to call for stricter enforcement of fan behaviour rules at international fixtures. They argue that teams and stadiums must do more to identify and ban individuals who engage in discriminatory behaviour.

Social media reports have seemingly identified the culprit as Ulises Fernando Bernal Miramontes, the President of the Colegio de Ingenieros Topógrafos Geomáticos del Estado de Jalisco, A.C. (College of Topographic and Geomatic Engineers of Jalisco) in Mexico.
