Liu used social media to support his fellow actor, claiming the backlash follows a predictable design targeting minority public figures.

The Internet Is Insane

Liu shared his own experiences with online hate campaigns to highlight the current situation. He stated that he developed specific trauma when people fabricated stories and launched hate campaigns against him during his career breakthrough.

Liu also directed his anger at media companies, specifically targeting BuzzFeed for its reporting on the situation.

He labelled the publication sad, accusing it of publishing sensationalist material instead of evolving. Liu claimed the company targets people of colour and compared their reporting standards to tabloid gossip sites.

Teen Tradition Gone Wrong

Williams has not released an official public statement about the photograph. However, sources close to the actor state he had no knowledge of the symbol drawn on his skin when someone took the picture.

Insiders clarified that the photo stems from a traditional high school camp out in his Canadian hometown. During the event, intoxicated teenagers used permanent markers to draw on each other.

Close friends of the actor confirmed the drawing does not reflect the beliefs, values, or character of Williams. They stated he understands the severity of the symbol and finds nothing funny about the situation.
