Steven Yeun, the actor who brought us Glenn in The Walking Dead and the titular hero in Invincible, is officially joining the party. But here’s the catch: we don’t know who he’ll be playing.

This untitled Aang adventure, slated for a January 30, 2026 release, is already shaping up to be a big deal. It’s being directed by Lauren Montgomery and William Mata, with original Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko on board as executive producers. The cast already includes Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza, so Yeun’s addition only elevates the hype.

Yeun’s no stranger to the Avatar universe. He previously voiced Wan, the first Avatar, in The Legend of Korra. That’s a pretty significant role, and it raises the question: Will he be reprising that role, or taking on someone entirely new?

Variety reports that character details are “being kept under wraps,” so we’re left to speculate. Could he be a new character from the Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, Water Tribe, or Air Nomads? Maybe a long-lost spirit? Or could he be returning as Wan for a flashback sequence? The possibilities are intriguing, and the mystery only adds to the anticipation.

Yeun’s career has been on fire lately. He’s got the Oscar nomination for Minari, the acclaimed Beef series, and upcoming projects like Ben Affleck’s Animals and Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17. He’s proven his range as an actor, and his voice work in Invincible shows he can deliver a compelling performance in animation.

So, who will he be in this new Avatar film? It’s a question that’s sure to keep fans buzzing until we get more details. But one thing’s for sure: Steven Yeun’s involvement adds a serious dose of talent to an already exciting project.
