Get ready for a love story unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun are ditching their human forms to play a lovestruck buoy and satellite in the upcoming sci-fi romance, Love Me.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world long after humans have kicked the bucket, the film follows these two unlikely lovers as they navigate the remnants of Earth and the vast expanse of the internet.

“With only the internet to guide them, they learn what being alive and in love means,” one of the articles teases.

And it looks like things get deep. The trailer shows Stewart and Yeun’s characters using AI and digital avatars to mimic a human couple they stumble upon in old YouTube videos.  This leads to some serious soul-searching, with Stewart’s character proclaiming, “I’m not even a buoy anymore,” and Yeun adding, “We’re becoming who we are.”

Kristen Stewart herself described the film’s themes in an interview at Sundance: “The movie’s about everyone, all of our projections, fears and insecurities. The way we interact with ourselves and each other, the way we present. The negotiation between lies and manipulation and also disparity in wanting to be seen.”

The film, written and directed by Sam and Andy Zuchero,  premiered at Sundance in 2024, where it snagged the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize for its focus on science and technology.

The Zuchero duo told People that the movie was inspired by their own relationship, explaining, “It’s about how distant we feel right now and how everyone wants so desperately to connect. Love Me became a mirror for who we pretend to be and who we really are.”
