Steven Yeun is returning to Netflix as the lead of Pagans, the supernatural drama from Say Nothing creator Joshua Zetumer. He will also executive produce the series, which combines emotional, horror and darkly comic elements.
The show follows Gus, played by Yeun, after the tragic loss of his wife leaves him as the sole caretaker of his two children. While his son is described as typical, his daughter Alice is anything but, and what begins as a strained father-daughter dynamic gradually turns into something far more sinister.
Yeun’s casting comes nearly a year after Zetumer’s spec script sparked a major bidding war among studios, platforms and producers before Netflix landed it with a straight-to-series order in September. Since then, the project has continued to build momentum behind the scenes.
In December, Drew Goddard and his producing partner Sarah Esberg came aboard as executive producers. Zetumer serves as showrunner, with Goddard, Esberg, Jonathan van Tulleken, Erica Kay, Yeun and Christina Oh among the executive producers attached through their respective banners.
The role marks Yeun’s first television project since his Emmy-winning performance in Netflix’s Beef, where he starred opposite Ali Wong and also won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. His relationship with Netflix has continued on the film side as well.

His recent film credits also include Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, Jordan Peele’s Nope, Lee Chang-dong’s Burning and Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You. Yeun, who received an Oscar nomination for Minari, is repped by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
