Vietnamese Americans are the only Asian American group voting for Trump.

A survey held by Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC, Asian and Pacific, Islander American Vote (APIAVote) and AAPI Data showed that 48% of 264 Vietnamese said they are voting for Trump compared to 36% for Joe Biden.

45% of Vietnamese Americans also said they prefer Republican candidates for the House of Representatives, compared to 32% choosing Democrats.

1,569 Chinese, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Filipino American registered voters across the U.S participated in the study between 4 July to 10 September.

Overall, Asian Americans seem to be voting for Biden with 54% showing support of the Democratic candidate compared to 30% for Trump.

Indian Americans are the biggest group to vote for Biden, with 65% voting his way.

14% of Asian Americans are still undecided about which way they will vote but 54% said they are more enthusiastic about voting this year.

“Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial group in the country and we’ve seen voters make an impact at the polls. This group saw a record high level of midterm election turnout in 2018,” said Karthik Ramakrishnan, professor of public policy founder and director of AAPI Data.

“These new data demonstrate that, despite considerable diversity by ethnicity, the Asian American community is largely united when it comes to support for the social safety net, environmental protection, and gun control,” Janelle Wong, senior researcher at AAPI Data noted.

“Organizations working on these issues need to make sure they include Asian Americans in their outreach,” she said.

In related news, US House of Representatives has passed a resolution denouncing Coronavirus racism towards Asian Americans.
