Jon M Chu and Henry Golding bought out a theatre to promote John Cho’s Searching.

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M Chu and star Henry Golding bought out a theatre to promote Asian-led film Searching starring John Cho.

Making the announcement on Instagram and Twitter, Golding shared a photo of himself in front of a poster for Searching. In the picture, Golding is posing in the same position with his phone as Cho in the poster.

“Me and @jonmchu were at the theatre surprising audience members, but had to stop off at a @johnthechoposter for @searchingmovie,” Golding wrote in the caption. “We both decided to buy out a cinema when it comes out and spread the support we have been receiving for CRA #GoldOpen… Can’t wait to see it, coming soon!! 🎥❤️”

Searching director Aneesh Chaganty responded, “Fellow Trojan AND from the Bay Area . Thank you so much for supporting us, Jon and Henry. This is all just so crazy.”

In the film, Cho plays young father David Kim who searches for his missing daughter. Kim enlists the help of a detective played by Debra Messing, but realises he is ultimately left to his own devices. The film is told entirely through computer and smartphone screens, in a similar fashion to 2014’s Unfriended.

Cho said he was drawn to the film because of its lead Korean American family.
