A South Korean tourist was hit in the face with a champagne bottle by a racist in Brighton for “being Asian”.

The Metro reports that the South Korean man was assaulted on Sunday. Minsu Jo, a friend of the victim who uploaded footage of the incident, described as a “racist attack”.

In the clip, a group of youths are seen gathering near the South Korean man. Whilst one talks to him, another swings a champagne bottle at his face. The group then cowardly run away.

Jo said that the attack broke one of his friend’s teeth and damaged ten others.

“My friend asked him why he has thrown the bottle him and then he answered “Because you are f***ing Asian.” Jo recalled. “After that, even though my friend tried to ignore [the attackers] and go back home, he kept making racial face, gestures, and saying racial words.”

The South Korean embassy and the police were contacted. Jo now hopes to raise £1,000 to help his friend pay for the dentist fees to fix his teeth.

Sussex police are investigating the incident.

“At about 10.30pm on Sunday, police were called by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) following a report of an assault in North Street, Brighton,” a statement read. “The victim, a 20-year-old man from Brighton, had been struck with a bottle, causing facial injuries, and was taken to hospital for treatment.”
