A man has been caught in China transporting two human arms.

According to a video uploaded to Pear Video, a 50-year-old man named Zhang was caught transporting two human arms. Authorities at a bus station in Duyun, Guizhou approached Zhang after the limbs appeared on the station’s security scanner.

“I asked him what was in the bag, and he said it was an arm,” a security guard told Pear Video.

SCMP reports that staff detained the man immediately, suspecting he was involved in a murder.

Zhang then claimed he was transporting the limbs for his brother who recently had his arms amputated following an accident involving electricity.

The hospital treating his brother verified the story and Zhang was shortly released afterwards.

However, netizens are astonished by the story as medical personnel are usually required to secure permits for transporting human body parts in China. In traditional Chinese belief, the body of the deceased should be cremated or buried in order to be at peace.
