Netflix is moving forward with its planned reimagining of a prominent noughties cinema favourite. Adeline Rudolph, recognised for her upcoming performance in Mortal Kombat II, has secured a role in the streaming platform’s upcoming reboot of 13 Going on 30. She joins the previously announced lead actors Emily Bader and Logan Lerman.

While representatives for Netflix chose not to comment on the casting news, production logs indicate that filming will begin in Los Angeles toward the end of June 2026. The specific details of Rudolph’s character remain confidential, and the production team is keeping the updated plot outline under wraps.

The Return of a Cultural Touchstone

The original film, released in 2004 by Columbia Pictures, followed a disgruntled thirteen-year-old girl who makes a birthday wish and magically wakes up seventeen years later as a thirty-year-old fashion magazine editor. The romantic comedy starred Jennifer Garner in the adult role alongside Mark Ruffalo. It earned ninety-six million dollars at the global box office before generating significant, long-term returns through home video sales and television syndication.

Garner has maintained an active connection to the property. She has signed on to serve as an executive producer for the Netflix update, ensuring a direct link to the original film. Her involvement follows her recent work backing a stage musical adaptation of the story, which held its world premiere at the Manchester Opera House late last year.

The Creative Team Behind the Update

Netflix has assembled a prominent creative team to modernise the material for contemporary audiences. Brett Haley, who recently directed the streaming platform’s popular adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation, will oversee directing duties.

The project utilises a screenplay originally written by Hannah Marks, with recent script revisions completed by Flora Greeson, who is also working on The Princess Diaries 3. The physical production is being managed by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for RK Films, working alongside executive producers Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming, and Alyssa Altman.

A Rising Profile for Rudolph

The casting adds another high-profile credit to Rudolph’s expanding portfolio. The British actress recently wrapped production on Warner Bros.’ big-budget sequel Mortal Kombat II, where she portrays the iconic video game character Kitana.

Her previous television and film credits include roles in Hellboy: The Crooked Man, as well as prominent parts in several Netflix and television serials, including Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Riverdale, and the live-action Resident Evil adaptation.

Rudolph is scheduled to appear in several major upcoming projects later this year. She will feature in Amazon’s Reacher spin-off series Neagley, and she stars opposite Arden Cho in Perfect Girl, an upcoming psychological thriller centered on the international K-pop industry.
