Blackpink singer and actress Jisoo has officially added another major accolade to her growing list of achievements. During the 2026 Cannes International Series Festival, also known as Canneseries, she was awarded the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award.

The honour, presented during the opening ceremony in France, highlights her successful transition from global music superstar to a versatile television and film actor.

Balancing Music and Acting

Jisoo first stepped into the global spotlight as a member of Blackpink in 2016. Since then, she has been busy building a career that spans well beyond the recording studio. She has appeared in the drama Snowdrop (2021-22), the science-fiction film Omniscient Reader (2025), and most recently, the Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand.

In Boyfriend on Demand, which premiered this past March, she plays Mi-rae, a webtoon producer who turns to a virtual dating app to escape the stresses of her daily life. Her performance has been praised for its range, with director Kim Jung-sik noting how she managed to distinguish the character’s real-life struggles from her virtual persona.

The decision to present Jisoo with the award was not taken lightly. Canneseries artistic director Albin Lewi noted that the festival chose to honour her due to her artistic journey and her clear ability to adapt to new creative roles.

“She continues to balance careers in music and acting,” the festival stated on its website. “With her international reach, screen presence and ongoing artistic growth, she remains a prominent and promising figure in contemporary Korean and global entertainment.”

The moment she stepped onto the stage in Cannes to accept the trophy, the atmosphere was electric. Fans had gathered in numbers to show their support, and Jisoo was visibly moved, thanking her fellow Blackpink members and her dedicated fan base in French during her acceptance speech.

What’s Next for Jisoo?

Receiving an award previously handed to stars like Sydney Sweeney and Phoebe Dynevor has clearly lit a fire under the singer. When asked about her future plans, she made it clear that she is far from finished.

“I would like to play a variety of roles to satisfy the audience,” she told reporters following the ceremony. “The name of the award refers to a ‘rising star,’ so it makes me want to show a new side of myself. It makes me want to work harder.”

As she continues to juggle her music career—including her 2025 collaboration with Zayn Malik on the track “Eyes Closed”—and a packed production schedule, it is evident that Jisoo is a major force in entertainment. With a new award under her belt, all eyes are on which genre she chooses to tackle next.
