JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young, known to fans worldwide as J.Y. Park, is officially shifting his focus. In a statement released on Tuesday, March 10, the agency confirmed that Park will resign from his role as an internal director.

He will not seek reappointment during the upcoming shareholders’ meeting on March 26. While he is leaving his corporate seat on the board, he isn’t leaving the company he built. Instead, he’s returning to his roots as a creator and mentor.

The agency explained that Park wants to dedicate his energy to his creative projects. This move allows him to spend more time in the studio as a producer and performer. He also plans to focus on mentoring the next generation of K-pop talent within the label.

Park has been a busy man lately. In November 2025, he released the digital single “Happy Hour” with Kwon Jin-ah. By stepping away from his administrative duties, he’ll have more freedom to pursue these artistic goals.

Beyond his work at the agency, Park is taking on bigger responsibilities for South Korea. Last September, he was appointed co-chair of the Presidential Committee on Cultural Exchange. This committee works to help South Korean culture reach more people around the globe.

Government officials praised his appointment, noting that his experience globalizing K-pop is invaluable. He is currently working to create more opportunities for cultural cooperation between Korea and other nations.

The Legacy of JYP Entertainment

Since founding the company in 1997, Park has overseen some of the biggest names in music. His roster includes heavy hitters like Twice, Stray Kids, Itzy, and Nmixx.

The company is currently in a very strong position. JYP Entertainment reported record sales in mid-2025, and Billboard recently named Stray Kids the top-grossing K-pop tour of that year. Park himself was just honored on Billboard’s 2026 Global Power Players list.

Even without the director title, Park will remain a key figure in the company’s creative direction. Fans can expect to see much more of him as a songwriter, producer, and mentor as he begins this new chapter.
