Get ready for a hilarious and heartwarming twist on a beloved classic! The first look photos from the upcoming remake of The Wedding Banquet have just been released, and it looks like director Andrew Ahn has cooked up something special.

This remake, starring Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang, reimagines Ang Lee’s 1993 film for a new generation. The story follows a group of friends as they navigate love, family, and the challenges of planning a wedding.

“Weddings are intensely important markers in the growth of your relationships, even fake ones,” Ahn told Vanity Fair. “Through the process of planning it, of going through it, you grow in your relationships.”

The film boasts an impressive cast, including Kelly Marie Tran, Yuh-Jung Youn, and Joan Chen. Yang, who previously worked with Ahn on Fire Island, couldn’t contain his excitement, telling IndieWire, “It’s going to be a really fantastic movie.”

Ahn’s remake promises to be a fresh and modern take on the original, exploring themes of chosen family and the evolving understanding of love and relationships.

“I was wondering as a gay man if I would ever have anything like that — would the culture allow a queer version of this?” Ahn shared with Vanity Fair. “This was my way of having a Korean wedding — to make a movie about it.”

The Wedding Banquet hits theaters in 2025.
