Adele Lim, known for her work on Crazy Rich Asians and Raya And The Last Dragon, is set to direct The Princess Diaries 3, the latest film in Disney’s beloved franchise. The news, broken by Deadline, confirms that Lim will be taking the reins from the late Garry Marshall, who directed the first two films.

Anne Hathaway, who shot to fame playing Mia Thermopolis in the original films, will reprise her role and also produce the film. “The fairy tale continues,” Hathaway wrote on Instagram, confirming her involvement.

However, it’s uncertain whether Julie Andrews will return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi. In a previous interview, Andrews expressed doubts about her participation, stating, “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible. It was talked about very shortly after [the second sequel] came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run”

Despite this, Lim is clearly enthusiastic about the project. “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” she said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
