‘Minari’ star Steven Yeun becomes first Asian American to be nominated for Best Actor Oscar

Steven Yeun has made history by becoming the first Asian American to be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar.

The Korean American actor is nominated for his leading role in Minari.

Lee Isaac Chung’s film is a semi-autobiographical movie, which tells the tale of a Korean American family moving to rural Arkansas. Yeun plays the father of the household, Jacob.

Minari recently drew controversy for being nominated in the Golden Globes foreign-language category even though American companies A24 and Plan B were behind the movie.

The film went on to win the Golden Globe for the category.

Earlier this year, the former Walking Dead actor revealed that he was asked to an Asian accent in auditions.
