Lifetime will release its first ever holiday movie focusing on a Chinese American family.

Titled A Sugar & Spice Holiday, the film centres on an architect named Suzie who returns home to Maine following the death of her grandmother.

Suzie’s high school friend Billy guilts her into entering a local gingerbread house competition, during which she searches for the perfect recipe as well as finding love.

A Sugar & Spice Holiday is written by Eirene Donohue and directed by Jennifer Liao.

“This is the first time we will see the lead character in an environment that leans into her family and customs and traditions as they are adapted into the holidays,” A&E Networks representative Kristine Tiongco said.

“In this case, the writer, Eirene Donohue, who is Vietnamese American pitched the story of an Asian American family and we loved it.”
