Trump has said that the Coronavirus is “not the fault of Asian Americans.”

Despite repeatedly calling Covid-19 ‘The Chinese Virus‘ and claiming that “Asian Americans would 100% agree” with the name, Trump has now explicitly said that the virus is not the demographic’s fault.

The President made the announcement on Twitter, stating “It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus.”

“….is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form,” he continued in another tweet. “They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!”

The tweet was received warmly by other Twitter users. “The American people love our Asian fellow citizens,” one person tweeted. “My nail tech is Asian American who owns the shop called me to ask what she thought she should do, so they do trust us as a people! I am proud and honored to have her as a friend and to know that she trusts me personally!”

“I don’t know what made Trump turn around and make this very good and nice tweet defending Asian Americans after his repeated use of the term “Chinese Virus,” but I am thankful for it,” another tweeted. “My only hope is that his sentiment lasts longer than a few days or a few tweets.”

However, some continued to urge the president to drop the ‘Chinese Virus’ term.

“Yet you refuse to stop calling it the Chinese virs which shows how little respect you have for anyone,” wrote one person. “You will go down in history as our worst. There will be new rules after you are gone to ensure we never have a repeat of what you bring to the table.”

“Then stop calling it the Chinese Virus,” said another.

One person simply tweeted, “Then, stop being racist by blaming the #TrumpVirus on them.”

In related news, a British model who posted racist Instagram stories regarding the Coronavirus has claimed her account was hacked.
