K-Pop stars Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon arrested for gang-rape

BBC reports that Kpop stars Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon have been sentenced to six and five years in prison for gang-rape.

Jung, 30, and Choi, 29, were charged with filming and raping drunk women. Jung is also charged with distributing the footage.

Both men will have to undergo 80 hours of sexual violence treatment courses and are prohibited from working with children.

Judge Kang Seong-soo said that Jung had raped women who were “drunk and unable to resist, filmed them nude and having sex, then spread it on a group chat”.

“We can’t imagine the pain the victims might have felt who found out later.”

Jung said in his testimony, “I deeply regret my foolishness and I feel great remorse. From now on, I shall only… live in remorse.”

The crimes first came to light in March 2019 when Jung quit the music business, admitting to the allegations.

“I admit to all my crimes,” he said. “I filmed women without their consent and shared it in a chatroom, and while I was doing so I didn’t feel a great sense of guilt.”
