Asia One reports that Ip Man star Donnie Yen has expressed his disappointment with Quentin Tarantino’s Bruce Lee portrayal in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Speaking at the media event for his new film Ip Man 4: The Finale in Kuala Lumpur, Yen criticised the Pulp Fiction director.

“I know Tarantino personally, but I’m very disappointed with how he portrayed Bruce Lee in the movie,” Yen said. “I watched most of the movie, but after that scene, I couldn’t continue on.”

In the film, aged stunt man Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) engages in a fight with Bruce Lee (Mike Moh), proceeding to beat him up.

“As filmmakers, I feel we should be more respectful towards someone like Lee, who has contributed so much to our industry, ” Yen added.

Earlier this year, Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee entered a feud with Tarantino, slamming him for his “irresponsible caricature” of her father.

Lee is also featured in Ip Man 4 as a former student of grandmaster Ip Man. Yen praised Danny Chan for his portrayal of the legendary martial artist.

“Danny doesn’t just look like Bruce Lee, he has also researched and practiced Lee’s moves and fighting style intensively,” he said.

The 56-year-old actor recently revealed that Ip Man 4 will be his final kung fu film.

Ip Man 4: The Finale will be released on 20 December 2019.
