Video game Overwatch has included a homage to Korean-Canadian TV series Kim’s Convenience.

During BlizzCon 2019, video game developer Blizzard Entertainment announced a sequel to its incredibly popular 2016 online shooter Overwatch.

Blizzard vice president Jeff Kaplan announced that Overwatch 2 will be a six-on-six team-based competitive shooter, just like its predecessor.

The new sequel will feature both PvP and PvE content at launch, not just PvP.

As well as presenting a cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer, Blizzard also revealed that four new maps will be coming to the sequel as well as the original game: Gothenburg, Toronto, Monte Carlo and Rio de Janeiro.

Eagled eyed Reddit users noticed that Overwatch‘s new Toronto map features a seemingly familiar convenience store.

Although named ‘Kang’s Convenience’, the corner store is undoubtedly a reference to the beloved Canadian TV series.

“I was watching Seagull’s stream and saw this. Which seems like a reference to the TV show Kim’s Convenience which takes place in Toronto,” wrote the original Reddit poster.

“It is TOTALLY a reference! and it checks out because the show takes place in Toronto!” Replied one Reddit user.

Another commented wittily wrote,” -Kill enemy- “Okay see you””.

Overwatch 2 will be released in late 2020.
