The Guardian reports that streaming service Disney+ has attached warnings on a number of classic Disney films regarding “outdated cultural depictions”.

Disney+, which launched on 12 November, has added the warning on Lady And The Tramp, The Aristocats, The Jungle Book, Dumbo and Peter Pan.

On each of the films’ descriptions, the final line reads: “This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions.”

First released in 1955, Lady And The Tramp features a scene with siamese cats which has since been deemed as racist. The cats are shown as caricatures with buck teeth – a common depiction of Asians at the time.

One scene features the Siamese cats singing the ‘The Siamese Cat Song’, where Lee performs with accented English. Gongs and stereotypical Oriental music is played throughout the song too.

Disney removed the song completely from its 2019 live-action remake.
