‘Mulan’ star Gong Li to be first Asian to win Cannes’s women in motion award

Gong Li will be awarded the annual women in motion award at Cannes Film Festival

Variety reports that Chinese-born Singaporean actress Gong Li will be awarded the Kering Group and Cannes Film Festival’s annual women in motion award.

Li will be the first Asian person to be given the award, which will be presented by Kering’s chairman and CEO Francois-Henri Pinault and the festival’s president Pierre Lescure.

The 53-year-old actress is known for films including Chinese films  Red Sorghum, Raise The Red Lantern, Farewell MY Concubine, Curse of the Golden FlowerWhat Women Want and The Monkey King 2.

Li also starred in American movies Memoirs Of A Geisha and Hannibal Rising, and will play Xian Lang in the upcoming Disney live-action Mulan remake.

“Making films is fundamental in my life, and I am most grateful to be able to continue to share my work and my passion,” Li said said.
