"So sorry you’re upset about being on television and making money"
Constance Wu has been criticised for being upset that Fresh Off The Boat was renewed
Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu has apologised for her angry tweets regarding the renewal of Fresh Off The Boat.
The Asian American comedy series had just been renewed for a sixth season by ABC when Wu took to Twitter to vent her frustration.
“So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. Fuck,” she wrote in one message.
“Fucking hell,” she wrote in another.
Fucking hell.

Fans were dismayed at her tweets and responded accordingly.
“So sorry you’re upset about being on television and making money,” one person tweeted. “It’s hard to hear someone complaining about it.”
“Just think about all the actors and crews today that shows didn’t get renewed and are devastated,” wrote another. “So maybe you shouldn’t be so upset that yours got renewed.”

I don’t understand why she’s being so ungrateful towards her employer—that put her on the map. I had no idea she existed prior to this show. I understand there are many opportunities out there; but you made a commitment. Be thankful you don’t work a boring 9-5 likemost folk. pic.twitter.com/YxSgtYUeAl

Just think about the as yet undiscovered actors and crews that could have their opportunity that could finally have a chance she had if she wasn’t to do a show that she didn’t want anymore. Also nobody should shame her if she feels that strongly about wanting to move on now.

Wu then sent a series of tweets apologising for her outburst, followed by an extended statement on the situation.
“That was not a rampage, it was just how I normally talk. I say fuck a lot,” she said in one tweet.
“Todays tweets were on the heels of rough day&were ill timed w/the news of the show,” she added in another tweet. “Plz know, Im so grateful for FOTB renewal.”
In her statement, Wu wrote, “my words and ill-timing were insensitive to those who are struggling, especially insensitive considering the fact that I used to be in that struggle too. I do regret that ad it wasn’t nice and I am sorry for that.”
That was not a rampage, it was just how I normally talk. I say fuck a lot. I love the word. Y’all are making a lot of assumptions about what I was saying. And no, it’s not what it’s about. No it’s not..what this is all about. Stop assuming.

Wu’s Crazy Rich Asians co star Gemma Chan was found to have liked a tweet described Wu as “rude, petty, mean-spirited and ugrateful”.
“Constance Wu’s conduct today comes as no surprise to anyone who has worked with her in recent years,” Huffington Post and New York Magazine contributor Yashar Ali tweeted. “She has a reputation for being rude, petty, mean-spirited, and ungrateful.”

However, Chan then claimed she it was an “accidental like”.
“Just to clarify – it was an accidental ‘like’. Anyone looking for drama or beef, sorry to disappoint,” she tweeted.
