Chinese film company Alibaba Pictures is basking in Green Book’s Oscar glory.

Variety reports that Alibaba Pictures is claiming their share of Green Book’s Oscar win. Green Book was nominated for five Oscars and won three including best original screenplay and best actor in a supporting role.

Alibaba Pictures, which recently achieved box office record breaking success with Wandering Earth, had invested in the Peter Farrelly film.

Green Book centres on world-class African-American pianist Dr Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) who tours the deep south in 1962. Shirley recruits bouncer Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen) who drives and protects him. The pair form a bond and confront danger and racism together.

“Even though Alibaba Pictures is a relatively new entrant into Hollywood, we have a track record of choosing quality projects that not only have high entertainment value, but also have positive messages we believe in,” said Zhang Wei, president of Alibaba Pictures.

The Chinese film company also backed Capernaum and On The Basis Of Sex – both of which were nominated for Oscars.

In related news, Pixar film Bao won an Oscar for Best Animated Short and Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan  hid cookies in her Oscars dress.
