A truck driver is under investigation after he caused a 31-vehicle-crash on a highway in China.

SCMP reports that 15 people were killed and 44 hospitalised in a 31-vehicle-crash on the Lanzhou-Haikou highway. 10 of those injured are in a serious condition.

The incident occurred when truck driver Li Feng slammed into 31 vehicles on the highway exit ramp. Li claims his brakes failed.

A police investigation is under way and Li has been detained.

The Lanzhou-Haikou exit ramp is recognised as an accident black spot. Since its opening in December 2004 and June 2018, 42 people have been killed and 55 injured in the same spot.

60 people have reportedly been killed there over the last 14 years. Traffic police issue warnings to drivers about the area during busy holidays such as Spring Festival.
