Stan Lee’s final creation was a Chinese superhero.

According to Variety, comic book legend Stan Lee’s last creation was a Chinese superhero named Jewel. The character is inspired by Hong Kong based pop singer Gloria Tang Tsz-kei AKA G.E.M.

“I never thought that one day I’d have the chance to become a superhero! Super, invincibly excited!” Tang wrote on Weibo.

Lee passed away on 12 November 2018 at the age of 95. Fans in China, who only received Venom in their theatres last week, have been mourning the comic book marvel.

“I cried while watching ‘Venom’, and am still applauding for grandpa – the biggest superhero of all has left us,” one Internet user wrote. “Thank you Stan Lee for the heroic dreams you’ve gifted us,” another posted beneath a photo of her pair of movie tickets.

The local hashtag“Stan Lee has passed” was viewed on Chinese social media 1.21 billion times.

Chinese film star Jackie Chan also shared his condolences and paid tribute to Lee on Weibo. “Many years ago I met him in the US with the feeling of a fan meeting his idol,” Chan wrote. “At the time he said he hoped that he could work with me to make a Chinese superhero movie. All these years, we always hoped to make that wish a reality… Goodbye, superhero.”

Chan is currently in China filming Project X with WWE wrestler John Cena.
