"The thing am most impressed by is the Chinese working culture"
WWE star John Cena has discussed his new life in China.
John Cena has discussed living and adjusting to life in China. The WWE star is currently in the country to film Project X. Cena replaced Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming Jackie Chan movie.
In a video posted to WWE’s YouTube channel, Cena revealed he has been in China for three months but is yet to feel acclimatised to the country.
“I’ve been here in China for three months now – and although we’re moving to different cities – I’ve been in the country for three months and I still don’t feel acclimated,” Cena said. “I feel adjusted, things are still new and fun and I don’t quite understand everything.”
“I think it would probably take a few years, but it’s amazing how much more comfortable I became after about a month and a half,” he continued.
Nonetheless, Cena is discovered the value in travelling and is encouraging others to do so. “We all want to feel comfortable. the place we feel most comfortable is our home because we are surrounded by things we know,” Cena said. “Go to a different country from home. Speak a different language, by yourself.”
The 41-year-old wrestler/actor compared travelling with WWE compared to travelling as an actor. ‘Travel in the WWE is amazingly relentless, but it’s only because we have an audience that’s so spread out,” he said. “We come to perform in Shanghai, you leave the next day because the routing is so very difficult, it’s logistically impossible to keep you there because there’s another show to be had.
“This is similar to everywhere across the world. I’ve often told people, ‘I’ve been around the world 25 times and seen nothing.’ So, being able to come here and make this my home, like, I’m here,’” he added.
Cena went on to say that he’ll spend five month in China and considers himself living in the country, as opposed to visiting.
“I’ve been here for three months and I’ll be here for two more. So, five months out of a calendar year, I’m here,” he said. “Instead of saying, ‘I’m visiting,’ I’m now living here and I kind of treat it that way.”
Cena also revealed that he is trying to immerse himself in Chinese language and culture.
“I try to use language wherever I can, I try to be more accustomed to the culture, try different things, and I’ve found places that I like and developed my own sense of comfort, but I’m always trying to challenge myself to kind of experience more and more,” he said.
For Cena, the most impressive aspect of Chinese people is their working ethic.
“The thing i am most impressed by is the Chinese working culture,” he said. “At times it’s chaos and it sounds like the stock market from the 80’s. But it is so hard working and so dedicated. Everyone has the common goal in this case to make a wonderful film.”
