Grey’s Anatomy has cast Alex Landi as its first gay male surgeon.

As reported by The Huffington PostGrey’s Anatomy has just cast its first ever gay male surgeon character.

ABC has confirmed that Asian American actor Alex Landi will play Dr Nico Kim. The studio did not release any details about the character or how many episodes he would appear in. IMDB lists at least four episodes in which his character appears.

The medical drama series, which has been running since 2005, will premiere its 15th season with a two-hour episode on 27 September.

Landi half Korean, half Italian and was born in New York City. According to IMDB, Landi has been interested in acting ever since his parents took him to watch The Lion King on Broardway at the age of seven.

After training at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Landi travelled to Asia to train with ne of the world’s most renowned martial arts teams.

His goal is to redefine how the film industry views Asian actors in leading roles.
