Crazy Rich Asians is expected to earn $20 million when it opens.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, John M Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians is tracking for a five-day domestic debut from $18 million to $20 million.

Industry leader NRG estimates 20$ million whilst Warner Brothers suggest $18 million. Interest in the film is reportedly resonating the most amongst young females.

Based on Kevin Kwan’s hit novel with the same name, Crazy Rich Asians centres on the lives of wealthy Chinese families living in Singapore. The story follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an American-born Chinese economics professor who travels to Singapore for her boyfriend’s best friend’s wedding.

It quickly becomes apparent that her boyfriend Nick (Henry Golding) and his family are incredibly wealthy. Rachel soon realises that Nick may just be the most desirable bachelor in Asia and that every other single woman in his social class is jealous of her and wants to bring her down.

The cast also includes Ken JeongJimmy O Yang,  Gemma ChanMichelle YeohSonoya Mizuno, and Awkwafina.

Recently, Crazy Rich Asians actor Nico Santos discussed the challenges the LGBTQ faces in Hollywood.

The all-Asian cast film will be released on 17 August.
