A 50-year-old Chinese woman has shaken the internet after sharing photos of her wearing a bikini in extreme cold conditions.

According to The Straits Times, 50-year-old Ms Liu Yelin took the photos at the frozen Lake Baikal in Russia, which reaches temperatures of -40C.

In the pictures that were shared on Weibo, Liu is seen wearing nothing but a bikini and a pair of ski goggles.

“My bikini is my armour. With it, I feel confident, healthy and youthful,” Liu said according to The Daily Mail.

“You know China is relatively conservative,” she added. ” Sometimes I got asked why I owe so many bikinis and wear bikinis so often, I would joke: “I am saving fabric for the country”.’

Liu, who has a 23-year-old son, says she spends hours exercising everyday. She claims the cold helps to slow the ageing process. Yoga in the snow and swimming in icy water are her “favourite things to do”.

After seeing a picture of people ice diving in Lake Baikal, Liu was immediately drawn to the region.

“I saw it and thought it was really cool, so I arranged a trip for me and my family. I’m an extremely straightforward person,” she said.

“The weather forecast said the temperatures would be around minus 15 degree Celsius, but when I arrived there, it was definitely much colder, something like minus 40 or so.”

“I know Lake Baikal is very famous for the blue ice with air bubbles trapped inside, so I’ve chosen to come here.”

With over 153,000 followers on Weibo, Liu has garnered a strong following to which she posts exercise tips as well as photos of herself.
