South Korean man fined for spreading rumour that Dr Dre will wed first lady Lee Hee-ho

A South Korean man has been fined for spreading a rumour that rap legend Dr Dre will marry the country’s former first lady Lee Hee-Ho.

The BBC reports that the unnamed man had claimed that the marriage was intended to launder slush funds belonging to former leader Kim Dae-jung.

The 73-year-old man had “violated the honour of the deceased and the bereaved,” as ruled by the Seoul district court.

Judge Lee Eun-hee fined the the man 5m Korean won for defamation, adding “the rumour about the slush fund and the marriage between Lee and Dr Dre is groundless.”

Lee Hee-Ho, 95, is still largely influential in South Korea. She was married to late Nobel Peace Prize winner Kim Dae-jung, who was president of South Korea between 1998-2003.

Whilst it is unlikely that the former NWA rapper and the first lady even knew each other, it is not clear whether people actually believed the rumour.
