Kylie Verzosa has been crowned Miss International 2016, making her the sixth Filipina to win the award.

Previous Filipino winners were Miss International 1964 Gemma Cruz, Miss International 1970 Aurora Pijuan, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman, and  Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago.

Verzosa, who hails from Baguio City, beat Miss Australia Alexandra Britton and Miss Indonesia Felicia Hwang who came 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.

In her speech, the 2016 winner said that she will be promoting international understanding.

“Three things come into mind when I think of Miss International: Culture, education, and international understanding. These three work together to make the Miss International brand relevant to the global community and to our time,” she said.

“If I become Miss International 2016, will devote myself to cultural and international understanding because I believe that it is with developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expands our horizons, tolerate differences, and appreciate diversity. All these enable us to achieve international understanding, and believe that I am prepared to take on this responsibility,” the beauty queen added.

I’ll miss you girls! Thank you for everything! ❤️ #missinternational2016
