Peter Dinklage is set to star in The Reckoner, a new action movie from The Furious director Kenji Tanigaki, with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad attached to pen the script.
The upcoming film marks Tanigaki’s follow-up to The Furious, which has become one of the year’s breakout action hits with both critics and audiences. Lionsgate has acquired The Reckoner, continuing its relationship with the filmmaker after picking up The Furious out of the Toronto International Film Festival. Anthony and Joe Russo’s AGBO will produce the project.
Plot details for The Reckoner are being kept under wraps, but the film brings together a notable creative team. In addition to writing, Kolstad will produce alongside Dinklage. AGBO’s Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Kassee Whiting are also producing, with David Ginsberg producing under Estuary Films, the banner he shares with Dinklage. The Russo brothers will executive produce, while Lionsgate executives James Myers and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing.
The Reckoner continues the ongoing collaboration between Lionsgate and AGBO, which are also behind the upcoming John Rambo movie directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Noah Centineo.

“One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is discovering filmmakers with distinctive voices, bringing their work to wider theatrical audiences and partnering with them as they take on projects of greater scale and ambition,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman. “That’s exactly what excites us about Kenji Tanigaki. The Furious showcases a singular filmmaking talent, and we’re thrilled to reunite with our friends at AGBO to bring his bold vision for The Reckoner to audiences worldwide.”
AGBO chief creative officer Angela Russo-Otstot added, “Derek Kolstad and Peter Dinklage came to us with a world we hadn’t encountered before, original, action-packed and with genuine soul. The moment we saw what Kenji Tanigaki did with The Furious, his take on action so unique and engaging we knew immediately he was the only director who could take this vision and bring it to life. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be bringing this remarkable collection of talent together with Lionsgate, whose commitment to bold, character-driven filmmaking makes them the perfect partner for this project.”
AGBO’s upcoming slate includes Netflix’s The Whisper Man, Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and Extraction 3.
Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, The Furious follows Wang Wei (Xie Miao), a father whose daughter is kidnapped by a criminal network. He teams up with journalist Navin (Joe Taslim), who is searching for his missing wife, leading to a relentless action-driven pursuit. The film grossed over $6 million at the domestic box office and more than $31 million worldwide. Lionsgate holds worldwide rights excluding mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.
