FIFA has issued an official match invitation to a South Korean content creator who faced targeted racial discrimination in the stands during a World Cup stadium broadcast. Yoon Su-jin, recognised globally by her 6.6 million YouTube subscribers as Ino-nyang, accepted the invitation to attend the high-stakes Group Stage fixture between South Korea and Mexico in Guadalajara on Thursday 18 June 2026.

The football governing body timed the invitation to coincide directly with the International Day for Countering Hate Speech. Officials state they intend to use the match platform to broadcast an explicit international message of inclusion and sporting respect.

A Hostile Act in the Stands

The incident took place on 11 June 2026 during South Korea’s opening tournament match against the Czech Republic. While Yoon was recording a video to capture the fan atmosphere for her followers, a spectator sitting directly behind her looked into the camera lens and performed an offensive, anti-Asian gesture.

The footage quickly went viral across social media platforms, triggering immediate widespread fury from international football enthusiasts. Local Mexican media outlets also condemned the display, with daily newspaper El Universal reporting that the fan deliberately disrupted an otherwise peaceful and friendly interaction.

Institutional Backlash and a Corporate Resignation

Internet users rapidly identified the individual in the video as Ulises Fernando Bernal Miramontes, the active president of the Jalisco State Geomatics Engineers Association. As public pressure mounted, Bernal switched his social media accounts to private before issuing a formal public statement.

In his apology, Bernal stated that he deeply regretted his actions and understood the severe responsibility he had to bear. He subsequently resigned from his position as association president, noting that he chose to step down to protect his institutional investors from the fallout of his personal conduct.

Local Supporters Rally in Solidarity

The offensive behaviour triggered a massive counter-response from local Mexican citizens, who flooded Yoon’s digital platforms with thousands of supportive messages. Users across online communities like Reddit distanced themselves from the individual, stating that his actions did not represent the values of the host nation.

Yoon responded to the wave of support with a message of appreciation, explaining that the global event has shown her that the world contains far more good people than bad. She confirmed she will continue to highlight the welcoming aspects of her trip while supporting the South Korean national team from the stands.
