K-pop supergroup BTS met Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum at Mexico City’s National Palace on Wednesday, greeting nearly 50,000 fans from the balcony ahead of their three-night concert run at Estadio GNP Seguros.
The group appeared alongside Sheinbaum, who confirmed the visit during an earlier press briefing, describing BTS as a band that “always carries messages of friendship, peace, and love.” This encounter reflects her longstanding support—in January, she hailed their tour announcement as a “historic moment” for younger Mexicans who had eagerly awaited the shows.
All three performances (Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday) sold out rapidly, fueling massive excitement around the capital.
Post-meeting, Sheinbaum celebrated on X, writing: “I am delighted to welcome one of the groups most beloved by the youth of Mexico: BTS. Music and values unite Mexico and South Korea.”

She added: “With a beautiful simplicity, BTS greeted their “A.R.M.Y” and nearly 50,000 people who gathered in the zócalo to welcome them. It brings me great joy to have been able to give them this moment of jubilation. The group conveys positive messages in their songs that foster a culture of peace and inclusion.”

The event underscores deepening cultural bonds between Mexico and South Korea, amplified by BTS’s global influence and return after years away.
BTS’s 2026 world tour has shattered expectations so far, with Mexico City marking a standout stop amid record-breaking attendance across Latin America. Earlier legs in cities like São Paulo and Buenos Aires saw stadiums filled beyond capacity, complete shows with elaborate production, and fan chants echoing for hours post-performance.
Tonight’s opener at Estadio GNP Seguros—capable of holding 87,000—promises fireworks, special guest announcements, and setlists blending hits from their entire discography, setting the stage for an unforgettable weekend.
