International K-pop star Jeon Somi is set to make her official acting debut in the upcoming horror-thriller film Perfect Girl. The project is already generating major buzz, especially since it will also star Arden Cho, known for her voice role in Netflix’s hit animated movie KPop Demon Hunters, and Adeline Rudolph of Mortal Kombat II and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The film’s premise sounds like a twisted take on K-pop’s intense trainee system. The BlackList script is being described by insiders as “Scream meets Black Swan.” The story follows a brand-new K-pop supergroup as they prepare for their highly anticipated debut, but with a terrifying twist.

“With only four spots available in the band and the final cut a week away, the competition is off the charts,” the official synopsis reads. “When a talented and mysterious new girl is introduced at the last minute, things start to get strange — girls are being hunted and attacked one by one, but who is responsible for the carnage, and more importantly…who will make the final cut?”

This plot promises a high-stakes blend of psychological suspense and slasher horror, all set against the glossy backdrop of the K-pop industry.

The New Cast and Creative Team

Jeon Somi, a Canadian-Dutch-Korean singer-songwriter, rose to fame after winning the Korean reality competition ‘Produce 101’ and debuting with the group I.O.I. Since launching her solo career in 2019, she has released a string of chart-topping singles. Her involvement in this project marks her first major acting role in a film.

Producer Scott Strauss at Badlands expressed excitement about her film debut. “We are so excited Jeon Somi is making her film debut in Perfect Girl,” he said. “She is a one-of-a-kind talent whose chemistry with Arden and Adeline is off the charts. The three will elevate our chills, thrills, and drama and collaborate with Director Hong to ensure an authentic portrayal of Korean culture and the world of K-pop.”

The film will be directed by Hong Won-ki, founder of the prominent Korean production company Zanybros, with a script by Lynn Q. Yu. Arden Cho is also on board as a producer, alongside the ‘John Wick’ outfit Thunder Road and Badlands. The film is also slated to feature six original songs, seamlessly “blending the worlds of music and film.”

Production is scheduled to begin on October 27 in Asia, with additional casting currently being finalized.
