KPop Demon Hunters, the explosive new animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation, has officially taken Netflix by storm. Just one day after its premiere, the film rocketed to No. 1 on Netflix’s global TV series rankings, proving its instant worldwide appeal. This genre-bending spectacle, featuring a K-pop girl group battling supernatural forces, topped charts in 22 countries, including major markets like South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, India, Japan, and Hong Kong.

The film introduces audiences to Rumi, Mira, and Joy, members of a wildly popular K-pop girl group. By day, they’re performing to sold-out stadiums; by night, they’re secretly defending the world from sinister supernatural threats. The ultimate challenge arrives when a new, wildly popular boy group suddenly takes the world by storm – only for the heroines to discover they are actually demons in disguise. This revelation sets the stage for a massive battle that could change everything.

Netflix itself is fully behind the show, even changing its official X (formerly Twitter) profile header and name to reflect the characters from KPop Demon Hunters, signaling its breakout status.

A Star-Studded Voice Cast and Chart-Topping Soundtrack

The film’s musical elements are a major draw, featuring an authentically K-pop soundtrack. Songs like TAKEDOWN, How It’s Done, and Free by the heroine trio Huntress, and Soda Pop and Your Idol by the antagonistic Saja Boyz, have quickly become fan favorites.

Behind the music, the film boasts an impressive lineup of top K-pop producers, including Teddy, Lindgren (known for BTS’s Boy With Luv and TWICE’s I CAN’T STOP ME), and Jenna Andrews (who worked on BTS’s Dynamite and Butter). Additionally, members of TWICE — Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung — contributed to the soundtrack, adding significant musical credibility.

The voice cast is equally stacked, featuring Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, and Ji-young Yoo as Zoe. Ahn Hyo Seop makes his English voice acting debut as Jinu, while Lee Byung Hun voices the villain Gwima. The film also features Kim Yunjin, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ken Jeong.

KPop Demon Hunters has also impressed critics, earning a 94% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 17 reviews, and an even higher 97% “fresh” Popcornmeter score from viewers. While some Netflix Originals struggle for consistent acclaim, ‘KPop: Demon Hunters’ has set a new record for the highest combined critic and audience score for a Netflix original production, outperforming even Oscar winners and action blockbusters in its initial run.
