Megan, a member of the multinational Kpop girl group KATSEYE, has publicly come out as bisexual. The announcement happened during a live broadcast on June 6, where Megan stated, “I want to come out. I’m bisexual.” Fans quickly flooded the comments with messages of support, celebrating her openness.

Doubling Down on Visibility

Megan’s announcement makes her the second member of KATSEYE to openly identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Back on March 24, fellow member Lara also shared on the fan platform Weverse that she is bisexual. Lara had previously written that she “didn’t know if people would accept me. I was scared it might ruin my chances,” when auditioning.

With both Megan and Lara now openly identifying as LGBTQ+, KATSEYE stands out as one of the few girl groups in the K-pop world with two openly queer members, setting a new benchmark for representation.

KATSEYE: A Global, Inclusive Force

KATSEYE was formed through the highly competitive HYBE and Universal Music Group audition show ‘The Debut: Dream Academy.’ The group officially debuted in June 2023 and is made up of six members: Lara, Manon, Sophia, Daniela, Megan, and Yoon Chae. Their formation is part of HYBE’s strategy to build a globally relevant, yet locally-rooted, girl group based in the United States.

The group is not slowing down. They are set to drop their second EP, ‘BEAUTIFUL CHAOS,’ on June 27. Fans can also catch them live at ‘Lollapalooza,’ one of the largest music festivals in the United States, taking place from July 31 to August 3 in Chicago, Illinois. This continued visibility on major platforms further amplifies their message of inclusion and authenticity within the Kpop landscape.
