Greta Lee’s latest thriller, The Last House, has debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10 movies list, drawing 27.5 million views in its first week on the platform.
The film, produced by Chernin and Netflix, now ranks as the streamer’s fifth-biggest opening for an original movie in 2026.
Directed by Louis Leterrier and co-starring Wagner Moura, The Last House follows a family of four suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, forced to work together as their supplies dwindle and a mysterious external threat keeps them trapped.
The contained premise has resonated with audiences still processing the psychological aftershocks of pandemic-era lockdowns, with Moura himself recently comparing the project to the hope that “the world was gonna change” after Covid isolation.

The film’s strong launch was fueled not only by Greta Lee’s growing profile but also by a bold — and slightly unsettling — marketing move. In the week leading up to release, Netflix installed a man living inside a billboard on Sunset Boulevard, echoing the film’s themes of confinement and surveillance.
The stunt immediately went viral, drawing crowds in West Hollywood and extensive social media coverage as passersby filmed and shared the live installation across platforms.

For Chernin, The Last House marks another major hit in a standout year. The company already scored one of Netflix’s biggest openings with Apex, which bowed in April with 38.2 million views, and its Man on Fire series led by Yahya Abdul-Mateen III also debuted at No. 1 on the TV side.
