Netflix has announced significant developments for its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, confirming that production for Season 2 has now concluded, and Season 3 is underway. The popular series, based on the Nickelodeon animated show, is expanding its cast with several new additions, including Dichen Lachman, known for her role in Severance.
New Faces for Seasons Two and Three
Dichen Lachman will appear as Avatar Yangchen, a revered Air Nomad, a character that was not introduced until Season 3 in the original animated series. She is among a group of new actors joining the production for its second and third seasons.
For Season 2, new cast members include Terry Chen from Jessica Jones as Jeong Jeong, the firebending master. Dolly de Leon, who gained recognition in Triangle of Sadness, takes on the dual roles of Lo and Li, Azula’s synchronised twin advisors. Lily Gao from Blue Sun Palace joins as Ursa, the long-lost mother of Zuko and Azula, whose storyline is central to their emotional development. Madison Hu from The Brothers Sun will portray Fei, an original character created for the series.

Looking ahead to Season 3, additional cast members include Jon Jon Briones, known for Hadestown, as Piandao, the master swordsman who mentors Sokka. Tantoo Cardinal from Killers of the Flower Moon will play Hama, a Southern Water Tribe elder whose dark use of waterbending has a lasting impact on Katara.
These new cast members will appear alongside returning leads such as Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. The series aims to follow the three-season arc of the original Nickelodeon show, which ran from 2005 to 2008.
Production Progress
The announcement of these new cast members comes as the series progresses through its production schedule. The cast recently shared a video from the set to mark the completion of Season 2 filming.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is produced in partnership with Nickelodeon. The original series creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, were initially involved but later departed due to creative differences. Their new studio, Avatar Studios, is working on its own animated projects, including a film titled The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender set to debut in cinemas in October 2026.
