Charles Melton, who garnered critical acclaim for his performance in Todd Haynes’ May December, is set to collaborate with another high-profile director, Nicolas Winding Refn. Sources confirm that Melton will star in Refn’s new film for Neon Pictures, currently titled Her Private Hell.
While specific details about the project remain under wraps, insiders suggest it will align with the intense and stylish thrillers Refn is known for, such as Drive and Bronson. Refn himself is writing and directing the film, with Neon co-financing and distributing. Neon confirmed the casting news, also announcing that Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Kristine Froseth (The Buccaneers), and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms) will join Melton in the feature.
Refn and Neon teased the project on social media, describing it as “something groovy”. The Danish director recently mentioned that his next film would be filmed in Tokyo, Japan, and would involve lots of glitter, sex, and violence. Her Private Hell marks Refn’s return to feature films since 2016’s The Neon Demon, following his recent work on television series like Amazon’s Too Old To Die Young and Netflix’s Copenhagen Cowboy.

For Melton, this role continues his impressive trajectory in acclaimed cinema since his breakthrough in May December. He also recently appeared in Alex Garland’s Warfare and wrapped production on the second season of Netflix’s Beef. Sophie Thatcher, known for her roles in horror films like The Boogeyman and the series Yellowjackets, and Kristine Froseth, who starred in The First Lady and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, further bolster the cast. Havana Rose Liu, recognized for her lead role in Bottoms, is also on board.
Production for Her Private Hell is expected to commence this summer, promising a potentially wild and visually striking cinematic experience from the director of Drive, this time featuring the talents of Charles Melton in a leading role.
