Joan Chen Joins Netflix’s ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ Adaptation Alongside Sally Field

Joan Chen is set to join the cast of Netflix’s adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s best-selling novel, Remarkably Bright Creatures. The film, which also stars Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, is currently in production in Vancouver.

The story centers on Tova, an elderly widow working at an aquarium, and her unusual friendship with Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus. While Tova is unaware, Marcellus is determined to solve a mystery that will lead her to a life-changing discovery.

Chen, known for her diverse roles in both Hollywood and international cinema, adds significant experience to the ensemble cast. She recently appeared in the FX series ‘A Murder at the End of the World’ and will be seen in the upcoming remake of ‘The Wedding Banquet’.

The ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures. adaptation has generated considerable buzz, given the novel’s popularity. The book, often referred to as “that octopus book,” became a word-of-mouth sensation, spending over a year on the New York Times best-seller list and selling over two million copies.

Olivia Newman, who directed Where the Crawdads Sing, is at the helm of this project. The film is produced by Bryan Unkeless and Peter Craig for Night Owl, along with David Levine of Anonymous Content.

Chen’s involvement, along with the rest of the cast, indicates Netflix’s commitment to bringing this beloved story to the screen with a high-caliber team. The film is expected to appeal to a wide audience, given the book’s broad appeal and the talent involved.
