A devastating plane crash near Washington D.C. has claimed the lives of 67 people, including a young ice dance duo with a promising future.  Angela Yang and Sean Kay, aged 11 and 12, were returning from a national training camp in Kansas when the American Airlines flight they were on collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The pair, members of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, had been undefeated in juvenile ice dance competitions this season.  Their coach, Alexandr ‘Sasha’ Kirsanov, was also tragically killed in the crash.  

The young skaters’ deaths have sent shockwaves through the figure skating community. Tributes have poured in for the talented duo, with many expressing their condolences and sharing memories of their performances.

This tragedy comes as the figure skating world is still reeling from the loss of other skaters, coaches, and parents who were also on board the flight.  Among them were Jinna Han, 13, and Spencer Lane, 16, from Boston, along with their mothers and coaches.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, is the deadliest US air disaster in over two decades.  While investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash, the focus remains on the profound loss of life, particularly the young athletes whose potential was cut tragically short.
