The Oscar-nominated actress Karla Sofía Gascón is facing a storm of criticism after a series of now-deleted racist tweets about the K-pop group BTS resurfaced. The comments, which were made several years ago, have sparked outrage among fans and critics alike.

In one particularly offensive tweet, Gascón wrote, “I’m fed up with the fact that every time I go looking for important news on Twitter, I get 200 of the fcking Chinese BTS or 200 touching their dcks.”

The tweet quickly went viral, with many people expressing their anger and disappointment at Gascón’s comments. Some called for her to be held accountable for her actions, while others pointed out the hypocrisy of her making racist remarks as a member of a marginalized community.

On Reddit, fans and critics alike voiced their frustration and disappointment. One user, osungwoo, commented: “Can we go just one day without BTS or Asians in general being disrespected, dehumanized, and disregarded as humans? I’m so tired.” Another user, Competitive_Fee_5829, shared their personal experience with racism, saying: “As an East Asian person myself…I am really tired of it being ‘ok’ to be so racist towards us.”

In response to the backlash, Gascón issued an apology through Variety, stating that she was “deeply sorry” for the pain she had caused. However, some have criticized her apology as being insincere and not addressing the specific issue of her racism towards BTS.

This is not the first time Gascón has been accused of making offensive comments. In 2019, she was criticized for posting a transphobic meme on social media.

Despite the controversy, Gascón remains a prominent figure in the film industry. She was recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the film “Emilia Pérez.”

It remains to be seen how this latest controversy will affect her career.
